Hayward scores 25, Bulldogs cruise to victory
Gordon Hayward made sure Butler didn’t need any late-game heroics to win this game.
Just days after having to survive a rimmed-out 3-pointer at the buzzer, Hayward scored 25 points to lead the Bulldogs to an easy 84-55 win over the host Illinois-Chicago Flames.
Hayward also grabbed eight rebounds. Butler sizzled from the field, shooting 56 percent, and also went 19 of 23 from the line. And on the defensive end, the Bulldogs limited the Flames to just 38 perfect from the floor. As a result, Butler remains undefeated in the Horizon League, boasting a 9-0 mark and a 3-game lead in the conference.
